Do We Need Police?

Private crime is falling, while police crimes are growing. Last week police killed another unarmed man, this time in Phoenix. Rumain Brisbon was shot twice in the chest for selling drugs. That’s not the official version. The officers said they “mistook” a pill bottle he was carrying for a gun. Of course. And Eric Garner’s open, empty hand – held outstretched before him as a police officer choked his life away – was no doubt trying to effect a Karate chop. No account of Brisbon’s actions – including from the police – claims that he was threatening anyone at the time of his death. He also didn’t have a gun on him. That fact too has been acknowledged by police. Do you feel safe around police anymore? Which brings us to the question… Do we need police? What purpose do police serve in a free society? Cops should exist to keep the peace, to protect life, liberty, and property. Period. Those whose actions do not harm others or interfere with their equal freedom to use their own bodies and/or property in a peaceful manner should never face a thug scrum of uniformed harassers. Ever. Accidents happen, and mistakes can be made. But they should result from human error, not design. Some of you in the public seem to delight in seeing police officers employing all manner of force against disarmed civilians, for purposes other than the protection of life, liberty, and property – which tells us a lot about the psychology of such people. It doesn’t change the nature of legitimate power. More often than not, cops only show up after crimes have been committed to take pictures and file paper work – that is somehow forgotten, as is the much more typical use of police officers as revenue collection agents for the State. Ever get a traffic ticket? For example, Eric Garner died for selling untaxed cigarettes. Should we have professional, tax-funded police officers? Would we better off without them? It seems these days we are more likely to die at the hands of these public servants than a real criminal. Police departments all over the United States are being transformed into military-style units. These days, even very minor violations of the law can result in a SWAT team raid. Once upon a time, the police were one of the most respected institutions in America, but now most Americans fear them. Almost every single day there are multiple... read more

Why Are Police Officers Killing People They Are Sworn To Protect?

When cops’ first instinct is to use force, we shouldn’t be surprised that people will die. we see it almost daily these days. Police seem to be getting more aggressive. But where is their duty to protect. Berkeley students and Berkeley residents began a peaceful march from Sproul Plaza to the Berkeley Marina to protest the deaths of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, and countless other brown and black youth at the hands of police. This is what they were met with… These people are helpless as police officers advanced on them. As you will soon see in the video the police are on both sides of them. On one side they are telling them to backup and go the other way. On the other side they are telling them the same thing. In essence, creating a wedge and nowhere for them to go. Police continue to assault peaceful demonstrators while corporate news media censors the violence. Why is this not in the news? This is not the first time we hear about police overstepping their authority. In fact, it’s made the news almost daily now. Eric Garner never had a chance. Or, to be more accurate, the cops never gave him one. Rather than talk to Garner, whom they approached on a Staten Island corner, police used force. Officer Daniel Pantaleo used a chokehold to bring him to the ground, and officers joined the struggle in an attempt to subdue Garner, whose only “crime” was asking police to leave him alone. He went into cardiac arrest, and died. It was all caught on video. This sudden escalation in the use of force isn’t unusual. You can’t go a day without hearing about another officer shooting or beating someone up. Michael Brown and Tamir Rice are just a few of the most recent. In August, just days before Officer Darren Wilson shot Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, 22-year-old John Crawford was killed by police in an Ohio Walmart. Crawford—who was holding an air gun he was going to purchase, and talking to his family on the phone. He didn’t have a chance, either. Police rounded a corner, and shot him, hitting Crawford and sending him to the emergency room, where he died of his wounds. It’s all on video. A system that tolerates and supports bad police is one that breeds contempt from the people it’s supposed to protect. They ask us to “respect the legal process and... read more

Video Shows Police Sadistically Tasering Non-Combative Inmates

This video clearly show police officers tasering non-combative inmates. But, instead of investigating the officers for their disgusting actions, police are investigating how the video got released. This is a disturbing video from a holding cell surveillance camera showing 2 police officers essentially torturing inmates. The different video clips range from July of 2010 to October of 2010. The clips all present the same scenario, two cops walk up to the cell, open the door and taser the non-violent, non-combative, and otherwise completely peaceful inmates. It is truly disgusting. Is this how our public servants server and protect. You form your own opinion. Do you see anything in these videos that require them to taser these people? America should be outraged that this goes on with our police. Are you awake Yet? Stay in touch and receive more insights with the America’s Great Awakening Newsletter. Police Stop Man for Walking with Hands in Pockets

The footage below shows a police officer in Pontiac, Mich., stopping a man for apparently suspicious behavior. What was the man doing? Walking with his hands in his pockets. This is yet another reminder of what goes on between authority figures and the pubic. There is no evidence that McKean did anything wrong. However, the officer explains: “You’re making people nervous.” When McKean wonders what he’s done, the officer replies: “Yeah, they said you had your hands in your pockets.” In the U.S., this type of questioning, universally known as a Terry stop, requires an officer to have reasonable suspicion that a crime has been committed, usually obtained by observing the suspect engage in some sort of “unusual conduct.” However, the cop seems to suggest that the man’s cold hands met that standard. McKean expresses outrage that walking with your hands in your pockets on a cold day is cause for people to call the police, the officer insists: “Well, we do have a lot of robberies around here.” It’s unclear how the cop equates the man keeping warm in sub-30 degree temperatures with the local robberies, but he seems genuinely surprised by the man’s reaction, at one point asking the man, “Am I inconveniencing you?” Is this the world you want to live in? Guess what, you already do. It’s time to wake up. Are you awake Yet? Stay in touch and receive more insights with the America’s Great Awakening Newsletter.
